I attracted some attention building this igloo in the parking lot of Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. The snow plow did all the compacting for me - no need to stomp. This igloo took 2.5 hour to build. It could sleep 2 people with all their gear, if the plows don't get it first.
I wanted to see how quickly I could build an emergency shelter. This one took 100 minutes and it culd easily get 6 people out of deadly wind and cold. First I dug into the slope and leveled out a platform, then I started quarrying blocks from the sleeping area.
Here is a fun time lapse movie of a 6th grade igloo building workshop.

Live KPTV broadcast part 1

We built an igloo on LIVE TV in a screaming blizzard for Drew Carney (KPTV Fox 12 "Good Day Oregon"). By the end of the 2 hour show Drew's feet and wireless microphone had frozen. He was able to finish the broadcast using his cell phone, his feet warmed up on the ride home. Thank you Drew, thank you Mike (cameraman).
